The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS Zone B), has warned the Buhari-led government not to seek assistance from medical doctors from China to help fight the spread of the Coronavirus in the country, saying that “if the federal government goes ahead to welcome foreigners from China, the Nigerian students will not hesitate to parade along the streets of the country in protest.”
In a press statement signed by Comrade Jeremiah Friday Ohomah, popularly known as Applewater, Coordinator, NANS Zone B-South-South, South-East, the students added: “The world at large is fighting a pandemic that has affected many top countries, and most countries are earnestly striving with her local team of doctors and associated health workers in a bid to protect lives.”
The statement read further: “This is a time for the Nigerian Government to work together with the team of medical professionals, health and community workers across the country in providing lasting measures to this outbreak.”
They continued: “Let’s train our own. Let’s build on what we have; this will promote independence, rather than dependence on external reach.”
Furthermore, they bemoaned the lack of equipment in hospitals in various states and many local government areas in Nigeria, adding that Nigeria cannot boast of functional health facilities which make accessibility of proper medical services difficult for the masses.
“We say no to foreigners at this time of a global outbreak that has presented a lot of interpretations,” they averred.
