Just In: Gunmen Kill Two Mobile Policemen, Woman In Delta Community
Two mobile policemen and a wife of a popular businessman (name withheld) have been reportedly shot dead at the Okuokoko area of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
NIGER DELTA TODAY Online reports that the incident occurred on Saturday along Mcnero street in Okuokoko Town.
The gunmen, it was gathered, had reportedly trailed the businessman from his office to his residence in Okuokoko where the incident occurred at about 8pm.
The deceased mobile policemen were said to have been escorting the businessman when they were ambushed by the armed-wielding hoodlums numbering about six.
The operatives who were defending the man and his family during the attack were, however, hit by bullets and reportedly died on the spot.
A middle-aged woman identified as a wife of the businessman was also killed during the crossfire.
It was further gathered that the businessman, who survived the incident, sustained gunshots injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
The victim, according to sources, is into wholesale of assorted drinks.
“The gunmen were about six from what we heard. They killed two mopols and the man’s wife during the incident. I heard the man sustained gunshots injuries and was rushed to hospital.
“I can’t really tell the motive of the robbers but the man is a businessman. The policemen engaged them in serious gunfire before they (cops) were shot dead. It was a serious gun duel between the gunmen and the policemen”, a source told our correspondent on Sunday.
The Delta Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident when contacted on Sunday.
She also confirmed the killing of the mobile policemen but could not give further details of the incident.
