The kingship tussle in Idjerhe Kingdom has taken a new dimension as Chief Angus Omasoro during a world press conference in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta reiterated that he remains the Udurhie 1, the Ovie-Elect of Idjerhe Kingdom.
Omasoro while expressing total dissatisfaction at the purported crowing of Monday Whiskey as King of Idjerhe Kingdom, added that the exercise that took place yesterday was the height of a breach of the tradition and custom of Idjerhe Kingdom which is politically motivated and an act capable of causing disunity among Idjerhe sons and daughters orchestrated by some politicians.
He asserted that it is not the duty of politicians to install a king.
He maintained that politicians perform constitutional duties and other political functions but not to be involved in traditional matters.
His words: When it comes to the issue of tradition and culture, it is the people and the family, the person that the lineage family would bring that will be crowned as king.”
What they did yesterday was a purported political planning on the part of those who believed that they are now political leaders and alpha and omega of Idjerhe Kingdom; Idjerhe Kingdom belongs to everybody,” Omasoro said.
He continued: “A question that I have been asking and till now, nobody has been able to give me an answer is that which of the Udurhie is Monday Whisky from? Is it Oyonobru Udurhie or Idjerhe Central Udurhie? Because Oyonobru does not have Udurhie or Uduaka.
“The royal lineage of Idjerhe central Oguedion is Udurhie and Uduaka and both have four families each,” Omasoro told journalists.
Omasoro while faulting the illegal action of Chief Atiti from Oyonobru, told newsmen that the only man that can install a king is Chief J.A.Sango, the Unugbrogodo of Idjerhe Kingdom.
Chief Omasoro while calling for calm among Idjerhe sons and daughters, said that the matter is already in the court and the judiciary has a key role to play in this regard even, as he again called on the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to step in to the matter and the good people of Idjerhe Kingdom to rise up and defend their fatherland.
In the same vein, Chief Angus Omasoro has decried the underdevelopment of Idjerhe Kingdom, blaming it on selfish politicians who have refused to perform their constitutional duties of giving dividend of democracy to the people but are rather focused on playing kingdom politics which is not their primary function.
