ABRAKA: After Two Weeks Of Clash, Rival Cult Groups Embrace Peace

After two weeks of intense fighting that left several of their members dead, two rival cult groups in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government of Delta State, Aiye and Eiye, have finally embraced peace and agree to sheathe their swords.

According to a statement by the President, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Comrade Efemna Umukoro, the peace talks organized for the warring groups was successful.

Though he did not give the details, be disclosed that others who played key roles to intervene and restore normalcy to the university town include Comrade Ufuoma Oghenede, the Commandant of the disbanded Anti-Cult group in the area.

He said: “We sincerely wish to thank Almighty God, security agencies, the Local Government Chairman of Ethiope East, Chief Faith Majemite, the Anti-Cult President, Delta State, Comrade Austyne Emu and the public for the necessary support in finding a lasting solution to the crisis which rocked the Abraka/Eku community two weeks ago.”

He added that “members of the peace committee include representative from both rival cult group, the Anti-Cult commandant (Oghenede Ufuoma) his men and the youth wing President of the Urhobo Progress Union UPU Youthwing.”

Furthermore, he disclosed that agreements were reached, as every member of the committee spoke their mind and accepted the peace move, promised to go back home to deliver the message of unity and peace to everyone.

According to him, it was further agreed that anyone who instigates trouble again in Abraka community will be dealt with according to the law and that the leaders of the community, police and anti-cult would go after them.

The UPU youthwing President admonished the youths to shun cultism and other social vices, saying that it is capable of destroying their lives.

The youth leader used the medium to inform the representatives that he would be part of the anti-cult programs/rally which comes up on Monday in Abraka to sensitize youths on the dangers of cultism and other crimes.

On his part, Oghenede advised Abraka youths and students who fled the town to return since peace has finally been achieved.
