2021 Budget Will Ensure Effective And Timely Justice Delivery, Says Mrakpor

Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Peter Mrakpor (SAN), has described his Ministry’s 2021 budget projection as a budget of consolidation that will ensure effective and timely justice delivery in the state.
Mr. Mrakpor, stated this when he led top management staff of his ministry to defend the 2021 budget projection and estimate before the Chairman and members of the State House Committee on Justice, Ethics and privileges.
He pointed out that the Ministry’s budget performance for 2020 was perfect despite the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic that ravaged the entire world, stressing further that, the Ministry’s 2021 budget proposal was the same thing with that of 2020 estimates.
The Attorney general said, “the budget presentation exercise was perfect, it was very good. It went very well. What we have presented is very straightforward. I want to thank members of the house for their cooperation.”

The State Attorney-General said that the budget captured provisions for visits to correctional centres as well as public defence activities amongst others.
He told journalists at the end of the exercise that on several occasions, he had promised Deltans that he has already made a mark where posterity will judge him well for making a positive development in the ministry where most of the cases have been attended to swiftly, enabling them to meet the deadline set aside by the association of criminal justice.
He assured that in 2020, “we would be concentrating on several things in the ministry of justice where we are going to look at the provision of visits to correctional centres to review case files, to look at the public defender law and see how fully developed that unit is.”
In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Justice , Ethics and privileges, Hon. Charles Oniyere, Esq representing Ughelli North Constituency 1, said that the essence of the defence was to evaluate the budget performance in the ongoing financial year and consider their budget projections for 2021.
He commended the Commissioner for Justice and top management staff of his Ministry for doing a perfect job.
