Delta SERVICOM Boss, Okeme, Others Eulogise Role Of Women In Nation Building

Women in any society have been described as critical agents for nation building.
The Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, gave the charge recently at the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration in Asaba.
The Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on SERVICOM and Labour Relations, Comrade Mike Okeme, said that women had a greater role to play in the growth of not only their individual homes but the state and the nation at large.
He noted that the theme of the 2021 Women Day Celebration anchored in “Women in Leadership Towards Achieving Equal Opportunities for All in COVID-19 world: The Nigeria situation” was apt and necessary.
Comrade Okeme recalled that the world all over was facing the COVID-19 issue.
He, however, urged them to always collaborate with other stakeholders with a view to ensuring that women continue to take their pride of place in the scheme of things.

The SERVICOM boss, admonished them to be steadfast in their fight for freedom, stressing that their position today was a call to duty.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Delta State chapter, Comrade Goodluck Ofoburoko, advised them to interface with other Labour unions towards actualising their quest for a better welfare for workers in the state, adding that they should showcase their capacity in all aspects of life.
The NLC boss said that women always played very vital role in the growth and development of any society, just as he urged them to take issues of Labour and workers seriously.
Also speaking, the Delta State Chairperson of the Women Committee, Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State Council, Comrade Vera Onoriode Osilonya, said that the International Women’s Day was aimed at reflecting on the success recorded thus far on issues bothering on the welfare of women.
She emphasised the need for women to be courageous and always celebrate women who had played extra ordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
She said that it was a season to celebrate women’s contributions to the society, raise awareness about the fight for gender parity and inspire support for organizations that would help women globally.
