Federal Government Commissions Health Centre In DELSU

A new ultra modern primary health care facility provided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Presidency, Abuja, has been commissioned at Site 3 of the Delta State University, Abraka.

This took place on Monday, July 26, 2021.

Speaking at the occasion, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, represented by Dr. Mrs Ify Ukaegbu, urged the University management to ensure optimum use and sustainability of the facility to enable it to meet the increasing challenges which the interventionist agency set out to address nationwide, particularly the eradication of poverty, attainment of zero hunger and enhancement of good health.

She congratulated DELSU for being one of the lucky beneficiaries of the project.

She further commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga whom she described as a “reliable and fortunate” leader whose tenure attracts good things such as the Health Centre she commissioned.

Professor Egwunyenga, who was visibly excited, expressed gratitude to the Presidency for considering and accepting DELSU as suitable for the laudable and all important project, that would address the health care challenges of the academic community, especially staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor, who assured the SSA to the President of the University’s readiness to sustain the project, also acknowledged one of the university’s former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs) Roseline Aziza for her selflessness in attracting the project to the university.

Presenting his welcome address, the University’s Director of Health Sciences, Dr. Simeon Onakughotor, thanked the Federal Government for choosing DELSU as one of the beneficiaries, for the lofty ideals of the interventionist agency, saying that the facility would be of immense help to the university community.

In another development, the university community was treated to some innovations with Dr. F. Okorodudu of the Department of Computer Science breaking new grounds with the invention of an Oil Pipelines, sabotage and vandalism detective device to address the perennial problem of pipeline vandalism.

This happened at the opening ceremony of the Capacity Building Workshop on Packaging Bankable Research and Writing Skills for Grant-wining Proposal, organized by the Directorate of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer.

Professor Egwunyenga expressed satisfaction that a lecturer from the Delta State University has proffered a lasting solution to the nation’s challenge of the protection of oil facilities.

He commended other inventors for their resilience and creativity, but regretted the attitude of many Nigerians for lacking maintenance culture which has made many hard earned projects go moribund in various states.
