Ogun LG Pension Expends Over N5.7Bn On Pensions In Six Months

The Bureau of Local Government Pensions in Ogun State says it has so far paid over N5.7bn between January and June this year as monthly pensions to retired Local Government Councils’ workers and those of SUBEB under its Transition Pension Scheme which presently caters for retirees in the PRE-1991 category.

The Bureau’s Head of Budget and Planning, Mr. Amusan Oludotun, disclosed this while the management team appeared before the State Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy led by Ajayi Bolanle at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Oludotun remarked that the Bureau remained proactive in ensuring prompt payment of gratuity and pensions to existing pensioners and other category of officers exempted under Section 5 of the Law, in accordance with the relevant and applicable computations under the PAY-AS-YOU-GO pension scheme of the Local Government service.

Canvassing for the data/biometric capturing of serving officers in the database of the bureau, the Director assured that more administrative strategies were being put in place to receive and review public complaints on the contributory pension scheme with a view to passing them to the National Pension Scheme, where necessary for appropriate actions.

Responding, Ajayi and other members including Honourables Ganiyu Oyedeji, Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye commended the Bureau for effective delivery of its core mandate, with an admonition to them to step up plans at ensuring a hitch-free and prompt payment of gratuity as and when due.

The lawmakers equally examined the budget performance of Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives as presented by its Commissioner, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat and that of Local Government Service Commission as reeled out by its Director of Management Services, Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun.

The Heads of Local Government Administration of Yewa South, Ifo, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North and Ijebu East also presented the half year budget performance reports of their respective councils before the lawmakers.
