UPDATED: DELSU Thrown Into Mourning, As Professor Akpotor Dies

The news of the death of
Professor Sunday Akpovuyono Akpotor in the Department of Political Science, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has again thrown the university community into a state of mourning.

This medium erroneously reported based on false information provided by a source that he died from a failed surgical process at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State.

But, further investigation by Oasis Magazine allegedly said he died of COVID-19 complications.

The university don is also said to have died at Lily Hospital, Warri after he was rushed there when he was knocked down by a vehicle in Ughelli that was reversing out of a parking lot.

Late Akpotor was in Ughelli to attend an event at Wetland Hotel when the incident happened.

He was said to be waiting for a vehicle that blocked his car to move out so he could leave the occasion venue when the accident occurred.

Our reliable source added it was at the said hospital that he contracted COVID-19.

Plans were made to move him to an isolation center in Asaba when he gave up.

Thus, rather than moving him to an isolation center in Asaba, his remains was deposited at a morgue.

While a statement by the family and the university is yet to be released, a management source added that they learnt of his demise this morning while the university was organizing her 87th Inaugural Lecture.

The deceased left behind a wife who is a lawyer and a daughter.
