Group Vows To Resist October 7 Protest By Urhobo Youths Over Adebowale’s Appointment As PTI Principal

A group, Urhobo National Youth Movement (UNYM), has vowed to resist any protest by the Coalition of Urhobo Youths Organisation (CUYO) or any other group in connection with the appointment of Dr. Henry Adimula Adebowale as principal of the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State.

Recall that CUYO has scheduled October 7, 2021, to protest over the said appointment.

Speaking with newsman in Ughelli, Ughelli-North Local Government Area recently, CUYO spokesman, Stephen Ohwokirerhuo, argued that chief executives of all the federal institutions in Nigeria are people from those areas where they are cited.

He called on the Minister of State of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Silva, to commence the process of his immediate removal as principal of the institution as Adebowale’s appointment negates the spirit of the tradition of appointments of chief executives.

He further alleged that Adebowale was not qualified for shortlisting for the position and explained that his retirement will come before the expiration of the tenure.

But, in a swift reaction, UNYM while vowing to resist the said protest, warned that no protest will be allowed, adding that whatsoever it takes to stop the protests will be applied.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Andrew Igue, said they are determined to stand with Adebowale, saying that he was a round peg in a round hole.

They called on security operatives to be at alert on October 7, saying that those planning the protest were only trying to escalate the fragile peace in the community that hosts PTI.

According to him, “Uvwie has been peaceful for the past two years and nobody should come and disturb the peace process in the local government.”
