Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government Area in Delta State, Barrister Possible Ajede, has called on legislators in the council to shun politics and focus on their legislative duties.

Recall that on Wednesday, fracas broke out during plenary of the legislators where an attempt was made to impeach the leader of the House, Hon. Clarus Osaeliogor and pass a vote of no confidence on him.

The council boss, who spoke during a press briefing on Thursday in his office at Obiaruku, added that the sole duty of legislators was to make laws that will favour the people of Ukwuani.

According to him, lawmakers in the area at the end of their tenure should have results to show those they represent, adding that this administration was already 8months into her 3-year term.

He continued: “So, my sole message to them is that everybody should settle their differences .Every man is valuable. Let them put aside their differences and come together as one. The day they were sworn in, they were all here jubilating. So, they should put all that aside to be able to deliver their mandate so that Ukwuani Local Government Council can have development.”

Furthermore, he denied the allegation that he was parleying with the leader of the house to compromise the activities of legislators, just as he said that the legislators after they were sworn in asked for synergy with the executive. This, he said cannot be achieved without closeness to Osaeliogor.

Adding: “The relationship I have with the leader is not different from what I have with other honourable members. The point is we are trying to move Ukwuani forward.”

On moves to pass a vote of no confidence on the Leader of the House, Ajede said: “I don’t know what they mean by him been incompetent. The young man has been driving the house so far. Incompetency in leadership is subjective to me but from what I can see from afar as the chairman of the council, is that the young man has been able to display some level of decorum .You need comportment to actually carry a lot of people along. We have about 20 honourable members of that house and the 20 of them were not brought up by the same parent. So, at one point or the other, they will want things done their way and if you don’t go their way, somebody may interpret that as incompetence.”

Meanwhile, unverified report has it that the move to impeach the leader of the house may not be unconnected to the internal wrangling in Ukwuani PDP.

It is said that the Commissioner for Finance in the state, Fidelis Tilije and Esther Uduehi have been battling on who is the supreme leader of the PDP in the local government.

A few days back, some councilors and a few stakeholders endorsed Tilije as the leader of the party in the area.

Sources said Osaeliogor is opposed to Tilije’s dominance and said the gang up to impeach him was masterminded by external forces loyal to Tilije.

Tilije, we learnt has an ambition to become the Deputy governorship aspirant to James Augoye and is determined to clear everyone opposed to this goal off his way.

Oasis Magazine learnt that at least 12 legislators are with Tilije.

The question on the lips of political observers is will Osaeliogor escape impeachment or will Ajede’s mercenaries as he stated at the press briefing restore unity to the troubled Ukwuani legislative arm?

At the time of filing this report, the maze of the House was still in the custody of the police.
