College Of Education In Mosogar Bags TETFUND Award

Delta State College of Education, Mosogar formerly known as Delta State College of Physical Education, Mosogar in Ethiope West LGA of Delta State has bagged TetFund Award of Recognition for Outstanding Performance in the Unitization of TetFund National Research, at the just concluded TetFund 10th anniversary celebrations.

This is a great feat to the college under the new Provost, Dr. Israel Imide and management team, lecturers and staff of the college, who are working assiduously and tirelessly in ensuring unprecedented growth and development of the best College of Education in the state.

College of Education Mosogar is in affiliation with University of Benin (UNIBEN) and Delta State University, (DELSU) Abraka.

BELOW ARE DETAILED ACHIEVEMENTS OF DR ISRAEL ONOKERO IMIDE, PROVOST, DELTA STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, MOSOGAR

INTRODUCTION
Dr Israel Onokero Imide was appointed as Provost/Chief Executive Officer of Delta State College of Education, Mosogar on May 27th, 2020 by the Visitor to the College, His Excellency, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. On assumption of duty, Dr Imide was greeted with the sad news of the death of a child who drowned in the College swimming pool during the Children’s day celebration. More challenging was the deficit he met in the College accounts and the high indebtedness of the College to FIRS, Delta State Government and lack of funds to manage the College. With the assistance of his managerial team and the support from the Governing Council, the Dr Imide led administration has not only turned the fortunes of the College around but has also set the College on the path to greatness within a period of one and a half years into his five years term. A summary of his achievement is outlined below.
LANDSCAPING THE COLLEGE
One noticeable achievement of the Imide led administration is the giant stride he has taken to landscape the College. Over the years, previous administrations had ignored this very daunting task, perhaps due to the nature of the College environment. Stretched over a land space of over two kilometres square, the College is mainly covered by bushes. The Imide administration has commenced the landscaping of the College by opening up the large expanse of land at the College main entrance and moving deep into the College. It is expected that the landscaping would progress gradually to completion.
PURCHASE OF VEHICLES FOR PRINCIPAL OFFICERS
The Imide led administration has been able purchase official vehicles for the Registrar and the Chairman of Governing Council without resort to borrowing. There are plans to purchase official vehicles for the Deputy Provost, College Librarian, Bursar and Provost within the next few years.
PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A 100 ROOMS HOSTEL
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the College and a private developer has been signed to construct an ultra modern 100 rooms capacity hostel for students of the College programmes. The project is billed to commence in the first quarter of 2022. When completed, the hostel would be equipped to generate its own electricity and other modern facilities to make life comfortable for the College students.
INTRODUCTION OF IJMBE PROGRAMME
To shore up the poor revenue base of the College, the Imide led administration has successfully affiliated the College with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to run the IJMBE programme which commenced in the 2020/2021 academic session. The Programme is headed by the workaholic Dr Thomas Boye and it is expected to grow and become a major source of revenue for the College.
GRADUATION OF STUDENTS OF UNIBEN PGDE Programme Since the commencement of the UNIBEN PGDE affiliate programme in the 2018/2019 academic session, the College has been unable to successfully graduate students of the programme due to several factors. Dr Israel Imide and his management team visited University of Benin and was able to resolve the financial and other challenges bedevilling the programme. This paved way for the successful graduation and convocation of over 100 PGDE College students. The next batch of College PGDE students has also successfully concluded their programme.
IMPROVED NCE ADMISSION LOW NCE enrolment is a major challenge affecting all NCE awarding institutions in Nigeria. Being conscious of this fact, the Imide led administration swung into action to ensure that there was an appreciable improvement in the NCE enrolment in the College. The College recorded a higher NCE enrolment from the previous session.
NUC MONITORING TEAM AND NUC ACCREDITATION VISITATION
The National University Commission (NUC) visited the College in the first week of November, 2021 to monitor and inspect the College affiliate degree programmes with UNIBEN and DELSU to ensure that standards have not been compromised. In preparation for the visitation, the Imide led administration ensured that necessary personnel, facilities and equipment were in place. The preliminary report from NUC commended the College for a job well done. This has boosted the College’s preparedness for the forthcoming NUC accreditation visitation scheduled in December 2021. It would be the first time the College affiliate programmes would be facing accreditation and it is expected to be successful.
ENVIRONMENTAL MAINTENANCE
Maintenance of the College environment is very challenging because there are more undeveloped areas that need regular grading, clearing and general maintenance. With the paucity of funds in the College, the environmental maintenance is a huge. However, the Imide led administration is ensuring that the environment is maintained.

RESTORATION OF ELECTRICITY POWER TO THE COLLEGE AFTER SEVEN YEARS
The Imide led administration was able to restore electricity power to the College after seven years of power outage. This is a major achievement for a tertiary institution. Going further, this administration connected the entire College campuses to the College 250KVA, ensuring that there is regular power supply to offices and the College hostels.
RENOVATION OF THE COLLEGE HOSTELS
The Imide led administration successfully renovated the College three female hostels and one male hostel thereby improving the living conditions of students in the College hostels.
STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The Imide led administration was able to budget for the training and development of staff in the year 2021 from internally generated revenue. A total of 25 non teaching staff were sponsored to conferences and seminars in the period under review while N1.5m was budgeted for academic staff.
13.DEMONSTRATION SCHOOLS UPGRADE
Efforts are ongoing to upgrade the demonstration schools to make it more attractive for new entrants. To this end, the primary school has been fenced and the Day Care Centre renovated with modern facilities put in place. Work is on-going to upgrade the secondary school to meet WAEC standard.
14.CONCLUSION
The Imide administration is about one year and six month old into its tenure. With the current spate of work and the developmental projects on ground, there is the firm hope that the College would definitely attain that enviable height as envisioned by the founders of the College.
