Oboro Reiterates Government’s Readiness To Change The Narrative In Water Sector

The Delta State Government has said that it is set to change the narrative in the water sector, through the establishment of more sustaining water supply and maintenance culture.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Rt. Hon. Evelyn Oboro stated this during the Ministry proposed 2022 budget defence with Delta State House Assembly Committee on Water Resources Development.

Hon. Oboro, who said that 2022 budget was designed to ensure inclusive growth in the water sector, noted that it was a State wide project which was not tied to a particular Community.

The commissioner assured Deltans that the ministry under her watch would pursue the elimination of open defecation in the state.

The chairman of the committee , Hon. (chief)Peter Uviejitobor urged the ministry to ensure that all the water schemes were active so as to guarantee effective water supply in the state , adding the ministry should rehabilitate the water schemes that were not functional.

Present at the budget defence were the Permanent secretary of Ministry of Water Resources Development, Engr. Blessing Edewor was present for the budget defence, Director General of newly created Water sector Regulatory Commission Engr. Henry Idama and Princewill Mordi, National Coordinator for Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN) among top management staff of the ministry.

It could be recalled that Society for Water and Sanitation is A Non Governmental organizations Community Based Organizations in water Sanitation and hygiene spread over six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
