Bianca Or Not, Violence Is Bad (Restraint Is The Better Part Of Beauty — Frances Gray Patton)

Bianca Ojukwu occupies a unique position in Igboland on account of her marriage to Emeka Ojukwu – the greatest Igbo leader in history.

However, such a unique privilege comes with a lot of responsibility one of which is decorum, especially in public. Most commentators on this saga knew next to nothing about Ebele Obiano until yesterday, and she will probably never be heard of again after this. But Bianca Ojukwu has a lot of pedigree being the daughter of Governor Christian Onoh of old Anambra State, and the wife of the Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu. In addition, she is a lawyer, former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, former Ambassador to Spain, and the current Nigerian Permanent Representative at the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
But all of this was thrown into the garbage bin yesterday by her lack of restraint.

It is public knowledge that Bianca has some beef with Willie and Ebele Obiano, and it was apparent that she went to the inauguration ceremony yesterday to celebrate their political demise. This is based on her recent Facebook posts. On February 17, she said on her wall: “Today is the 17th of February 2022. One month, okwu agwu! Going, Going, ……! Uhuru, here we come!” And yesterday (17 March 2022), she wrote: “This is the Day the Lord has made…a day that reaffirms the age-long truth that no-one holds the stage forever. I thank the Almighty for keeping us all alive to witness this day. To Him be the glory It was long in coming, but it’s finally here…A more dynamic and progressive Anambra is achievable.”

To be clear, I do not endorse the uncouth performance by Ebele Obiano. However, it is amazing how a lot of people seem to be endorsing the slap and even praising Bianca for slapping another woman in public. More worrisome is that most of the adulation is coming from women, especially Igbo women based in Nigeria. The diasporans have been more sensible in calling out the show of shame.
Biko, when did public violence become praiseworthy in society? Whatever happened to the spirit of restraint? Whatever happened to Bianca’s diplomatic mien? What if she had been the recipient of the slap? What if Ebele had torn her dress in public or wrestled her to the ground? What if she gets charged for public misconduct? And who was that man “calming” her down? Please say no to violence even when the perpetrator is Bianca Ojukwu.
