Senator Aguariavwodo also narrated how some of the provisions in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, act were made.
“I was part of those who made the best provision for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Act. We made them when I was in the House of Representatives. We made the law in such a way that as at today only those four core states, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom can produce the Managing Director, or CEO. We made the act like that because we felt that our people should enjoy the wealth coming from their land.
“We said twenty percent of what goes to the state that’s what Federal Government should contribute but the then Senate said ten percent so when we went for conference and harmonisation, it came to fifteen percent, and some of us who felt the Ijaw land must be developed, chose Yenegoa as the Capital of NDDC. But the Senate said Port Harcourt, so much politics was involved, and Port Harcourt carried the day after harmonization between the House and the Senate “
“When God lifted me and I became the Commission’s Managing Director, the development of the riverine areas of the Niger Delta became my battle cry. In the local governments areas of Patani, Bomadi, Burutu Warri North, etc, we designed a large number of projects. We made designs for shore protection, for roads, concrete roads and so on, all those designs are still in NDDC till date,” The Senator who represented Delta Central years back said.
He called on the delegates to vote for him when the time comes to chose a candidate for the party comes
“I am experienced, I have the ability and God willing we will continue with the empowerment programs of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration, commending the Governor for implementation of the programs as they have transformed lives of thousands of Deltans over the last few years,” he averred.
Responding, the chairman of PDP Burutu Local Government Area, Mr Ebike Oromoni thanked the aspirant for coming to see them, assuring him that Burutu PDP will support him in his quest to develop Delta, adding that he is a good man, “but please don’t forget us when you get there” the chairman concluded.
