Former Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Eric Arubayi, has commended the Professor Andy Egwunyenga-led administration for conferring the title of emeritus professor on him, saying he has paid his dues.

Arubayi, who spoke during the 14th convocation ceremony of the institution after the conferment, said he did not expect the honour, adding that he has put in over 30 years of lecturing in the university system.

He continued: “I have come a long way in the university and I have paid my dues; I bowed out and retired as professor July, 2016 which is the month of my birth.”

Professor Emeritus Arubayi presided over DELSU as VC from 2009 to 2014. During the period, DELSU ranked 3rd best state university and 20th best university in Nigeria.

Speaking further, Arubayi recalled how DELSU started as a mono-campus with just the Faculty of Education, just as he commended those that recommended him to the Governing Council of the institution for the honour.

Meanwhile, Professor Egwunyenga noted that the former VC was chosen for the honour on the basis of the academic development that occurred under the former VC, adding that Arubayi ran an excellent administrative structure while he occupied the office.
