Tenant In Abraka Shocked, As Landlord Increases House Rent From N300K To N800k

One Afure Dafioghor resident in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, has expressed shocked after he got a notice from his landlord, Chief Johnny Monday that the two bedroom flat he occupies situated in Urhuoka, Abraka, has been increased from N300, 000 to N800, 000.
According to Dafioghor’s Tuesday’s post on Facebook, he said: “Woke up this morning to receive a letter of RENT INCREMENT from my landlord 🤣🤣🤣 I laughed not at naivety of the landlord but at the audacity of the So called law firm to issue a 170% increment It could only happen in Nigeria, Abraka precisely.”

Attached to.the said post was a letter from a law firm, ONOLEX LAW FIRM , signed by C. Akpokiniovo, dated 28th, April, 2022.
The letter titled ‘RENT INCREMENT,’ reads:
“We are Barristers/ Solicitors to Chief Monday Johnny of Ihobe Street, Urhuoka, Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State Nigeria your “Landord” (hereinafter referred to as our Client) on his firm instructions we do hereby give you notice of increment.
Please be informed that your apartment, 2 bedroom flat, situated at Egbo Road, Urhuoka Abraka wherein you are a yearly tenant of (300,000. 00) Three hundred thousand naira only has been reviewed and increased to (800,000 . 00) Eight hundred thousand naira only to be continued on expiry of your rent. This is due to cost of building materials respectively.
Please also be informed that rents payment henceforth shall be in full and not in pieces, that is, half payment shall not be entertained. We regret the inconveniences this may cause you. If not convenient or uncomfortable, alternative measure can be taken (I.e relocate on expiration of rent).”
