Police Warn Against Cultism, Cult Killings, Crimes In Edo, As Court Remands 7

The Edo State Police Command has warned residents of the State, especially Benin-city to stop incessant cult killings as recorded in the last 24 hours.

In a statement on Friday signed by ASP JENNIFER U. IWEGBU, DEPUTY POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, EDO STATE COMMAND,
BENIN CITY, the police said that “the Command’s Crack team and Anti-cultism unit has been directed to immediately start investigation into the ugly trend.”

Adding: “To this end, suspects have been arrested by the police joint team and they are co-operating with the Police with useful information.They will soon be arraigned in court.

The police gabe the names of the 4 suspects arrested as Esosa Eregborowo M aged 35yrs, saying that “Frank Obazee M aged 34yr was arrested at Iguosodin Community, Upper Siluko Road, Benin city.”

“They confessed to be members of the dreaded Eyie confraternity,” the statement added.

Others arrested the lolice said are Minister Godwin M aged 18yrs and Jeremiah Timothy M aged 22yrs who were arrested at Eweka by Siluko Road, Benin City saying that they confessed to be members of Aiye confraternity.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police has ordered a massive deployment of operatives to ensure that peace is restored and perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to justice/arrested to face prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc while commiserating with the bereaved families, assured the good people of Edo State, of the Command’s unrelenting efforts in ensuring that there is no hiding place for criminals.

He further warned all criminal elements to desist from crime or face the full wrath of the law.

At the time..of filing this report, Oasis Magazine learnt that a Criminal Court sitting in Benin City, on Friday, remanded seven suspects over their involvement in the recent cult clash in the Benin metropolis.

The seven suspects who were arrested in connection with the resurgence of cult-related clashes in Benin City were remanded in prison custody by Hon. Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, sitting in Criminal Court 1, Benin City.

The suspects, namely, Esosa Eregeorowo, Frank Obaze, Ministrer Godwin, Jeremiah Timothy, Jimoh Lasisi, Osasu Idehen and Idehen Marvis were arraigned for conspiracy to commit murder, murder and membership of an unlawful society.

Ruling on an application motion brought by the Prosecutor, the court ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Oko Correctional Centre in Benin City, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Edo State.
