The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, has again cried out over the continued escalation of political violence in the state with just a few months to the commencement of the 2023 general elections.

The lamentation was sequel to the alleged destruction of his campaign secretariat in Tai Local Government Area of the state by suspected political thugs on Monday morning.

The SDP secretariat in Nonwa Tai, Tai Local Government Area in Rivers State was due for commissioning on Monday by the gubernatorial candidate, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, but was attacked and destroyed in the early hours of Monday morning by suspected political thugs.

A statement signed by Parry Saroh Benson, spokesperson to Senator Magnus Abe, said the several attacks and threats to life and property will not deter his principal from campaigning in Tai and other local government areas of the state.

The statement called on the state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident, and “bring an end to the escalating violence in the state”.

It would be recalled that last month, Abe and his supporters were attacked at Oyingbo Local Government Area by people suspected to be loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Abe had at different fora sued for peace before, during and even after the 2023 general elections, adding that a state can only develop in the atmosphere of peace.

When contacted on the recent attack, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Rivers State Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was not aware of the incident.

“When I get any information about the incident, I will let you know”, she promised.
