Ethiope East Council Chairman Gives Vehicles To Vigilante Members

As part of efforts to complement the Delta State government in cumbarting crime in the State, the executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Hon. Pharm. Ofobrukueta Victor on Wednesday gave out vehicles to the community vigilante in the council area, with a charge to put them into proper use for the reasons which they were given out which is the security of lives and property.

However, the vehicles given out were “eight (8), Toyota Sienna cars, Three Toyota Corolla cars one Merdedes Benz truck worth millions of naira.

In his speech during the occasion, the Ethiope East council boss, said: “l am very elated today to stand here to perform this ceremony of the Delta State security corps. For some time now, it has been the desire of the State Government to see to it that community vigilante members are adequately infused as a major partner to the Nigeria Police Force and security agencies.

“And in order to enable them perform very well in their duties of combating crime in the local areas, the state government has also commenced the monthly stipend of the community security corps across some local government council and Ethiop East happens to be one of those local government benefiting the stipends.

“And we as a local government, in our efforts to complement the state government in combating crime in the State. We also deemed it fit to as well empower the Ethiope East community security corps with these vehicles you are seeing here today so as to boost their performances in the service.”

He continued: “Because for some time now, mobility has been one of their major setback in the system, and we are given these vehicles to them to enable them patrol all the areas in the council to reduce the waive of crime, and enable them give necessary information to the police”

Speaking further, Hon. Oforbrukueta used the medium to charge the security corps to make proper use of the vehicles for the right purpose.

He appealed to the police in the local government, the hunters and other security agencies to keep calm, adding that the next turn of the gesture will be thiers.

Speaking, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), of Abraka, S.P, Ayameh Fabian, and the DPO of Isiokolo Division who was represented by Sunday A. Ideho, the President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Barr. Ese Gam, who was represented by Hon. Glory Ovwamuedo (JP), leaders of the People Democratic Party (PDP), and other community leaders present at the occasion in their various good will messages, commended Delta State government for the gesture.

They called on the corps members to be more dedicated to their duties and ensure that the purpose for which the vehicles were given to them was met.
