A campaign promise is an assurance or guarrantee made by a candidate to the public on what the candidate will do when he wins an election. This work deals with campaign promises not manifesto. A good campaign promise gives room for electoral victory. This is because the citizens that desire to vote a candidate will ensure the candidate he wants to vote for will ensure good governance. One of the campaign promises of DSP Senator Ovie OmoAgege that ranks high among others, to the good people of Delta State is the promise of reducing the school fees of students in tertiary institutions in Delta State from two hundred and eighty thousand naira (N280,000) to the barest minimum and the commencement of the payment is with immediate effect. That is, as soon as he is sworn-in as governor of Delta State by his grace in June 2023.

According to him students of Delta State, will pay the cheapest school fees in higher institutions in Nigeria, Oh! What a good promise. No governorship candidate in Nigeria has ever thought in that direction. There will be euphoria to parents, guardians and students of Delta State if he wins by God’s grace. This promise will reduce financial stress of parents, guardians and students of Delta State. It will enable students that dropped out from higher institutions during Okowa school fees hike return to school with hope. It will also encourage good quality education. Bearing in mind that good quality education is the only legacy a sane government can bequeath to her citizens.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has no good campaign promises for her people. What promises has Hon. Sheriff Obororevwori?. Is it not, every day I will ensure prompt payment of workers salaries, I will ensure effective teachers” promotion and payment of their arrears. Many retirees are dieing without receiving their gratuities, those that are alive are suffering untold hardship. It is only in Delta State government that pensioners” gratuities are paid after over seven(7) years of retirement. What ashame! To the pensioners in the state, DSP Ovie OmoAgege has even promised workers of Delta State that their pensions and gratuities will be paid to them the next day they retire. Sen. OmoAgege believes in the principle that says, a labourer deserves his wage.

Furthermore, do you know that teachers’ elongation of service which President Muhammadu Buhari has approved and many states in Nigeria have started the implementation long ago. It was just this month that governor Okowa gave approval without stating effective date of implementation.
Presently, teachers are retiring, because effective date was not given. Hon.Sheriff should pray that Delta State teachers will not remember what Okowa”s administration has done to them, if they remember, none of the teachers will cast his or her vote for you.

PDP administration claims they are workers friendly. What do they mean by workers’ friendly? In Edo State, Governor Obaseki pays the workers in Edo State forty thousand naira(N40,000) as minimum wage while Delta State is still wobbling with thirty thousand (30,000) minimum wage. Despite the state”s huge revenue allocation. Where is the workers” friendliness? Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are? Show me Okowa’s achievements and I will tell you what Obororevwori will achieve in Delta State.

What campaign promises does Hon Obororevwori have for the good people of Delta State rather than I will develop creative industry, I will have better deal with the teachers, I will ensure good governance and consolidate on Okowa’s achievements. What a casual statement. He said, he will have a better deal with the teachers, that simply means, Okowa has failed the teachers in the state, no wonder .teachers always complain of not been promoted as when due and arrears not paid in time and when paid, it will be short of its glory. May Almighty God have mercy on Delta State teachers in Jesus name.

I will ensure good governance, let Hon. Sheriff specify the areas in which he is going to ensure the good governance. All his promises are vaguely stated. He said, he will consolidate on Okowa’s achievements. This is the worst blunder of Hon Obororevwori, consolidating means, he will beef up loan borrowing, shoddy projects and so on. But, Sen.Ovie OmoAgege has goodnews for Delta State workers. He has also promised workers 13 months salary that is, every end of the year by December to be precise. All workers in the state will receive exactly double salary. It has been happening in many states in Nigeria but Okowa will not learn what is good.

Senator Ovie OmoAgege, has divulged his promises concerning the welfare packages to workers in the state and other citizens as well, because he knows that campaign promises are cynosure to the people. The little promises mentioned here are just a tip of the iceberg of DSP Ovie OmoAgege, our incoming governor of Delta State by God”s grace.

I will use this medium to appeal to all Deltans to come out en masse to vote for Senator Ovie OmoAgege of the All Progressive Party(APC) come March 18, 2023. For a better Delta State.
