Activist Calls For Prosecution Of “Trigger Happy Policeman” Who Shot Youth Dead In Asaba
By Daniel Dafe
An activist in Delta State,
Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, has called on the Delta State Police Command to prosecute the police officer who shot dead a youth in Asaba on Wednesday.
In a statement he made available to our correspondent, Agberen said that the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command should ensure that the trigger happy policeman who shot Mr. Onyeka Ibe at Asaba, is brought to book and made to face the full wrath of the law, saying it is barbaric for any security operative to manhandle any unarmed Nigerian.
Comrade Agberen added that the police uniform should not be a passport to power, that triggers the police to oppress but the uniform should be a passport to protect and defend her citizens.
“The Nigeria Police Officers, especially the rank and files should take precautions on how they treat the civil society,” he opined.
Comrade Agberen said that it is not out of context that the Nigeria Police need total reform and training to make it more vibrant and be able to perform optimally but should rather be subjected to mental health examination.

He said, If not that they have mental health issues, a right thinking and normal human being with sound mental health should not point guns at civilians, shoot and kill citizens who are not criminals, bandits, terrorists, gangsters or pose any form of threat to lives and property.
He called on the Nigerian government/Nigeria Police force under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police; Usman Alkali Baba, to as a matter of urgency subject all police personnel from the middle ranks to constable to psychiatric test and examinations to ascertain the level of their mental health because police brutality/extrajudicial killings is becoming alarming.
