Payroll Fraud Allegation Against Account-General Office, Unfounded –DTSG

The Delta State Government has described as unfounded rumour, reports making the rounds in online and social media platforms that alleged that the Office of the Accountant General, Delta State, is perpetuating payroll fraud, by paying humongous salaries to employees of the state government.

A statement on Friday by Theresa Adiabua Oliko, Director of Public Communication, in the state, added: “For the avoidance of doubt, the allegation of erroneous payments of salaries far beyond the amount approved and released to the state government officials, through their Eco Bank accounts, was as a result of technical glitches experienced by Eco Bank e-payment channels, and has nothing to do with the Office of the Accountant-General.”

According to the statement, the “management of Eco Bank has subsequently tendered an unreserved apology to the state government while reversing the erroneous payment with a view to posting the appropriate/authorized salaries to the affected beneficiaries.”

“It is hoped that this clarification will put the rumour mills to rest while assuring Deltans and the public that the integrity of the state government e-payment platform and its payment processes are secured and in line with the accounting/information technology best practices,” the statement said.
