Emiaso Applauds SEC, Stakeholders, Elders For Reuniting APSON In Delta

Chairman, Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria, APSON, Delta State Wing, Comrade Keno Emiaso, has appreciated the State Executive Council, stakeholders, and elders in Delta for their relentless efforts in ensuring that APSON in the state reunites as one family.

Stating this during the 101st State General Meeting of the body held on the 22nd of November, 2023 at Sapele, he urged all leaders and members to play roles that will continue to promote the association to greater heights.

Speaking further, he noted that the country is faced with serious economic challenges, just as he urged school administrators to take necessary measures in managing their schools to remain on track.

He continued: “We should also be mindful of the yuletide season; as a lot of wolves (criminals) in sheep’s clothing are out there looking for unsuspected victims to defraud. We should create time to always educate our staff, students and pupils on security tips on a daily basis.”

Furthermore, he recalled how the joint associations of private school owners in the state were in court with the state Government and Delta State Board of internal revenue over multiple taxation.

In his words, “Terms of settlement were reached by both parties; but it appears the various consultants employed by government MDAs are operating outside the purview of the settlement,” saying “this has prompted the associations to book an appointment with the chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue as the proposed meeting will be held before vacation.”

On local government revenue, he called on chapters’ exco to engage LGAs agents in dialogue only on rates/levies that are statutory and amount to be paid.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that the processes for the registration of certificate examinations in this session has started.

“As school administrators, we are once again reminded to make our school entries error free in all the certificate examinations and pay special attention on candidates’ date of birth and correct spelling of names.

“The examinations include: Cognitive/Placement, BECE, SSCE (WASSCE/NECO/NABTEB),” he said.

According to him, enough registration period is always given to school owners for the registration of candidates, while calling on school administrators to take advantage of the lengthy period and avoid last minute rush, noting that most errors emanate during the rush to meet up with registration deadline.

He also tasked Chapter chairmen to guide against extortion of money from members by the officials of MBSE mostly in the field offices during registration of all the certificate examinations.

Continuing, he frowned at the findings that most chapter don’t pay dues, adding that this has adversely affected the smooth running of the association.

Furthermore, he commended the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu for her immense contributions to the secondary education sector in the state, noting the strides the ministry has witnessed under her.
