Ighorhiohwunu: Again, Rights Activist Writes Open Letter To Oborevwori, Threatens Protests, Civil Unrest

Comr.(Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, National Coordinator, “No Justice, No Peace Initiative, has called on Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to call the Judiciary, Department of Public Persecution(DPP), Ministry of Justice to order immediately the release of Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu in order for him to reunite with His family.

Agberen who said this in an open letter on the 4th of December, 2023, to the governor, added that “the prolonged and continued detention of Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu at the Federal Custodial Centre Warri(Prison), Delta State, with charge number: FHC/WR/92C/2022, does not only show the injustice in the justice system but reveals how the criminal justice system remains far from perfect.”

Recall that on Tuesday, 28 November, 2023, Comrade Agberen wrote “An Open Letter” to Oborevwori informing him about the “unjust and unlawful detention” of Ighorhiohwunu and how some state actors had wanted him locked up in the correctional facility in Warri, so as to prevent him from exposing the lacunas in the system in regards to child trafficking and how it affects the welfare of children.

“As published by SaharaReporters December 24, 2022; evidentiary information has it that a Lawyer who works with the Department of Public Persecution(DPP), Ministry of Justice, Asaba, Delta State and not the Federal Ministry of Justice Abuja, had impersonated the office of the Attorney General of the Federation in filing the charges, which has been debunked in a letter by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation,” he said.

According to him, “the suffering of an innocent man for a crime he did not commit, keeping him away from his wife and kids in the correctional facility for over 15 months is inhuman of any government or an institution to oversee.”.

He continued: ” Going by the above subject, from the way it stands, it is obvious that there’s a mandate by some state actors, to purposefully keep Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu in the correctional facility, for calling for probe into child trafficking.”..

He wondered why “instead of looking into the issues he raised and how it affects the welfare of children, the focus was shifted to how he said it(Cyberstalking).”

Furthermore, Agberen, said: “However, his excellency, Sir, your silence on the miscarriage of Justice, on the case allegedly filed by the Federal Government, that bothers on cyberstalking in the case titled ‘Federal Government of Nigeria Vs. Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho,’ is an invitation for protest, which may likely lead to unrest in Delta State if nothing is urgently done about it.

“Furthermore, your excellency, Sir, it is only in your power to stop the judicial process for the purpose of discontinuing its process which in law, is constitutional. As, only the State Government has the power constitutionally, as guaranteed, irrespective of the nature of the allegations, and since the case wasn’t filed by the federal government at the instance of the Delta State Government.”
