ASUU-DELSU To Oborevwori: Implement Salary Increment To Prevent Industrial Disharmony, Brain Drain

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka Chapter, has called on the Visitor of the University, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to implement salary increment for academic staff in the institution before or latest on the 30th of April, 2024.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday signed by Prof. Godwin Demaki and Dr. Paul O. Opone, Branch Chairperson and Branch Secretary, respectively.

This follows resolutions reached at the union’s Congress on Friday, 19 April, 2024, on the implementation of the 35% and 25% salary increment as it affects the Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONUASS) with effect from 1 January, 2023.

The statement added that after exhaustive deliberations, Congress adopted the new salary structure for implementation in the Delta State University, Abraka; in line with the report of the implementation in Federal Universities of the presidency’s directive on the upward review of the Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary (CONUASS II) via National Salaries Income and Wages Commission’s circular SWC.04/T/22 of 14 September, 2023.

The statement continued: “ASUU-DELSU Congress, while noting that the said circular and the attendant upward salary review are yet to take effect in the Delta State University, Abraka, demands that the domesticated Delta State University Consolidated Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS II) be forwarded to the Delta State Government for urgent implementation by 30th April, 2024 (See CONUASS II attached), in the interest of industrial harmony and to stem brain drain from the Delta State University to other Nigerian Universities already implementing the new CONUASS II.”
