Dafinone Immortalises Ewherido

In recognition of his effort towards promoting the Urhobo language and culture, the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Ede Dafinone (SED), in collaboration with the Urhobo Studies Association (USA), has finalised arrangements to immortalise a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Pius Akpor Ewherido, by organising an Urhobo Language Competition for students of Delta Central origin in secondary and tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The honour for Ewherido, who represented the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District on the ticket of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) from 29 May 2011 to 30, June 2013, is coming eleven years after Ewherido passed away.

Those expected to participate in the competition are students of Delta Central origin drawn from Nigerian secondary and tertiary institutions.

Prizes to be won by participants are as follows: 1st (N500,000), 2nd (N300,000), 3rd (N200,000) and N100,000 each for the 3rd to 9th runners up (4th-10th position) as consolation.

The first stage of the competition will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at three centres, namely, Delta State University, Abraka, Government College, Ughelli, and Urhobo College, Effurun, by 10:00 a.m., while the second stage will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at DELSU, Abraka, and the grand finale will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Urhobo Progress Union Cultural Centre, Uvwiamuge-Agbarho.
