Warri North LGA, A Hotbed Of Political Slavery, Oppression — Egbema Integrity Group

The Egbema Integrity Group (EIG), an Ijaw pressure group, has condemned the Itsekiri political leadership in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State for what it called ‘political imbalance’ that unfairly affects the Ijaw people in the council area, saying that the local government area has been a hotbed of political slavery and oppression.

To clarify, the group in a statement on Sunday signed by Architect Garick Lamoye, President Egbema Integrity group ( EIG), and Tari Howell, Secretary Egbema Integrity Group (EIG), is condemning Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Hon. Michael Diden (AKA EJELE), and Mr. Godwin Ebosa, for creating political inequality in the local council where the Ijaws have four federal wards as against the Itsekiri six federal wards.

The group stated that the Itsekiri political leadership is the greatest beneficiaries of inclusive politics as demonstrated by Deltans in making Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as governor of the state between 2007-2015, saying.this was inspite of the minority status of the Itsekiris in the state.

Adding: “Sadly, same is not being extended to the Ijaws who are in the same council with them.

“That they are worried that all the positions in the councils are all taken by the Itsekiri political leadership which includes,:

1. The Local Government PDP Chairman: Itsekiri

2. The Two Commissioners at the State Executive Council: Itsekiri

3. The Member representing Warri North State Constituency at the State House of Assembly: Itsekiri

4. The Local Government Chairman: Itsekiri

5. The Leader of the Legislative Arm of Council: Itsekiri

“That the council has become a tale of political subjugation and that peace is worked, not preached; a situation where all critical positions both electives and appointments are all hijacked by the powerful Itsekiri political class is unacceptable. We condemned in it totality.”

According to the statement, “As Uthman Dan Fodio put it: “Conscience is an open wound, only truth can heal it.”

The statement reads further: “The phrase in the Guardian Newspaper aptly put it this way:” Conscience Nurtured by Truth “. That political leaders must foster a culture of truth, integrity, and conscience -driven leadership”. The group stated.

“We urge our amiable governor to correct the injustice without any further delay for the peaceful co-execistence of the two ethnic groups in the Local Government Area as their actions have affected the political and economic prosperity of the Egbema kingdom and it’s people for more than three decades.”
