Qatar Donates Funds To Support Over 4,400 Refugees Displaced By Gaza Conflict

Qatar has donated 4.5 million U.S. dollars to assist more than 4,400 Palestinian refugees stranded in the West Bank following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023.

The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) announced the donation, which was made through a partnership between the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the Qatar Red Crescent Society.

The funds will provide essential cash assistance to Palestinian workers and patients from Gaza who have been unable to return home due to the ongoing conflict.

Sultan bin Ahmed Al Aseeri, acting director-general of QFFD, emphasized the importance of the partnership in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini expressed gratitude for Qatar’s support, noting that many Palestinian refugees remain trapped in difficult conditions in the West Bank.

The conflict, which began on Oct. 7, 2023, after a Hamas attack on Israel, has claimed nearly 41,000 Palestinian lives in Gaza and displaced millions. The West Bank has also seen frequent Israeli military operations, with close to 700 Palestinians killed there since the fighting began.
