World Sight Day: Shamar School Holds Free Eye Treatment

Shamar School, Enerhen in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday held free eye treatment for learners, teachers and staff.
The school collaborated with the reputed Lily Hospital Warri in the free eye treatment in the one day medical program.
An Optometrist from the hospital, Dr Ogbonne Ude who spoke to our correspondent in a media chat during the health program disclosed that every second Thursday in the month of October is ‘ World Sight Day ‘ and that this year’s World Sight Day was targeted at children because according to her ‘ the child has the right to see clearer.’
She gladly remarked that the health program in the Enerhen based school was successful as she remarked that the learners, teachers and staff were receptive.
Dr Ude however stated that there was need to refer very few of the learners to Lily Hospital Warri for further treatment and that their parents would be reached out to.

She promised that hospital will collaborate with the school on the health program annually.
Ude was full of praises for the proprietress of the school, Dr (Mrs) Ambassador Ikemefuna for her initiative as she urged other school owners to emulate her.
Dr (Mrs) Ambassador Ikemefuna who spoke to our correspondent, explained that she collaborated with the hospital on the health program because she wanted the very best for her school “more so health is wealth,” she added.
Learners, teachers and staff who also spoke to our correspondent commended and appreciated the proprietress of the school for the initiative as some of them described her as a pacesetter.
