2027 Delta Guber: Ogboru, ADC Drive Emerging Political Realignment

As political activities intensify across Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says the state’s political landscape is witnessing a significant shift, with its governorship hopeful, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, emerging as a major factor in the changing political equation.

The State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mr. Fred Akpewe, stated this while speaking with newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Asaba, where he said long-standing political calculations were increasingly being challenged by emerging forces, alliances and changing voter sentiments.

According to Akpewe, Delta politics has, for decades, been shaped by an established political order that has appeared difficult to dislodge. He, however, noted that the approach of the 2027 elections was creating fresh calculations among voters, political actors and other stakeholders.

He described Ogboru as an experienced political figure with a long history in Delta politics, noting that his years of political participation had given him valuable experience, name recognition and an understanding of the state’s complex political terrain.

“What is different this time, however, is the platform and the wider political environment. The emergence of ADC as a major opposition platform has created an opportunity for politicians and voters seeking an alternative to the established parties,” Akpewe said.

The ADC spokesman explained that the party’s appeal was not simply about changing political parties, but about offering a new direction centred on development, accountability, equal opportunity and inclusive governance.

He said this was where the “Ogboru factor” became significant, stressing that while Ogboru brought experience and political visibility to the party, the ADC provided a platform capable of attracting voters seeking a departure from established political arrangements.

Akpewe noted that political equations could change when long-held assumptions about voters, alliances and electoral strength began to weaken, adding that the 2027 election might be determined by which political movement could build the broadest and most effective coalition.

He said the ADC was focused on building a coalition that would include young people, professionals, workers, entrepreneurs, women, community leaders and other Deltans seeking a different political direction.

According to him, Ogboru’s political history provides the emerging coalition with a recognisable political figure, stressing that his candidacy should be viewed beyond an individual ambition to occupy the Government House.

He argued that the larger question was whether the Ogboru project could become a vehicle for broader political realignment in Delta State, adding that if the ADC succeeded in converting public dissatisfaction into organised political participation, the party could emerge as a serious contender for power.

Akpewe expressed confidence in the ADC’s prospects in the 2027 election, citing its organisation, candidate appeal, coalition-building capacity and grassroots mobilisation. He added that the party was working to translate its political message into a programme capable of addressing the aspirations and concerns of Deltans.

He maintained that the political equation in Delta State was becoming less predictable as 2027 approaches, insisting that the growing influence of Ogboru and the ADC could no longer be dismissed in the state’s political calculations.
