DELSU Provost, Atonuje, Gives Daughter Out In Marriage

The Provost of the Oleh Campus of Delta State University (DELSU), renowned Professor Augustine Atonuje, has given out his daughter, Miss Judith Atonuje, in marriage to Mr. Emmanuel Atoma at a colourful traditional marriage ceremony held in Enwhe, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The ceremony, which took place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at No. 4 College Road, Enwhe, brought together members of the Atonuje and Atoma families, academics, community leaders, religious and traditional leaders, friends and well-wishers.
Oasis Magazine reports that the traditional marriage formally sealed the union between Judith Atonuje and Emmanuel Atoma following the payment of the bride price by the Atoma family to the Atonuje family in accordance with the customs and traditions of the people of Enwhe.
Judith is from the Atonuje family of Enwhe in Isoko South Local Government Area, while Emmanuel hails from the Atoma family of Owhe in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the newly married couple to family members, friends, well-wishers and other invited guests after the completion of the traditional marriage rites.
The Marriage Committee of Enwhe also issued a marriage certificate to the couple, signifying the recognition of their union under the native law and custom applicable to the people of Enwhe.
The newlyweds later went round the various canopies at the venue, acknowledging cheers, greetings and goodwill messages from guests. They also danced to traditional and contemporary music provided by entertainers, while family members, friends and well-wishers showered them with cash and other gifts.
The occasion provided an opportunity for family members, colleagues and friends of Professor Atonuje to celebrate with him and his family on the memorable occasion.

Professor Atonuje, who is scheduled to deliver his Inaugural Lecture at the Abraka main campus of DELSU on August 20, 2026, was joined by his wife and other family members at the ceremony.
Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Professor and Mrs. Augustine Atonuje; Professor Oghenero Odedede, Dean of the Faculty of Science, DELSU, Abraka; Professor (Mrs.) Beauty Alloh, Dean of the Faculty of Law, DELSU, Oleh Campus; Professor O. K. Edu; Professor Ignatius Njoseh; Professor Majority Oji; Professor Mathias Ekpu; Professor Blessing Eboibi; Professor Samuel Aggareh; Dr. Monday Agbawe; Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ogueri; Mr. Actor Etoroma; Ms. C. Okeke; and Dr. Daniel Akporobore.
Also in attendance were other professors, staff and students of the Faculty of Science, DELSU, Abraka, as well as community leaders, religious and traditional leaders, academics, students, family friends and other invited guests.
The ceremony ended on a joyful note, with guests offering prayers, congratulations and goodwill wishes to Judith and Emmanuel as they begin their journey together as husband and wife.
