Delta CJ Boosts Staff Morale, Reinstates Payment Of Allowances
By Agbaragu Timothy.
The new Chief Judge (CJ) in Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, has boosted the morale of judiciary staff in the state with the reinstatement of payment of allowances to the staff.
The CJ, while addressing some of the concerned staff, expressed displeasure over the stoppage of payment of drivers’ overtime allowances, pointing out that it was unjust, given the inherent hazardous nature of their job that compelled them to work even on weekends.
Justice Diai, who took oath of office as the state number one Judicial Officer on June, 29, 2021, also assured the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) that the stipends paid to watchmen would soon be reviewed upwards and arrears paid, especially to those who still go to work.
On working materials for staff, Justice Diai said the new administration would revert to the old policy where stationeries were provided to registrars to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the system, stressing that the process would minimise incidences of corruption.
The CJ promised to give adequate attention to training and retraining of staff to improve productivity in the Judiciary, explaining that resource persons would be sourced locally for seminars which would be organised internally.
Earlier, the leadership of JUSUN disclosed that they came to congratulate the CJ on the elevation to the exalted office.
The executive of the union which was led by the Chairman, Comrade Augustine Chiejina, posited that the appointment of the Chief Judge was well deserved given the impeccable track records of the CJ as one of the foremost upright jurists and administrative judge of so many years standing.
The chairman who described Justice Tessy Diai as labour friendly Judicial Officer, pledged the Union’s unflinching loyalty to the new administration and continuous harmonious relationship between the Union and the management of the Judiciary.
They appealed to the Chief Judge to look into the issues of timely promotion, staff welfare, and training and retraining.
The highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a portrait to congratulate the Chief Judge for the appointment.
