President, Oruarivie Abraka Youth Council in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Efe Don Kigho, has written a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, over an alleged threat to his life by Comrade Efemena Umukoro.

The petition dated 21st October, 2021, signed by Reuben Akata, for Finger of God Chambers, titled: ‘A Case of Threat to Life Carried Out by Mr. Efemena Umukoro,’ alleged that on the 3rd day of April, 2021, Kigho reported “a case of threatening violence, defamation and conduct likely to breach peace against one MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO a.k.a AKIMA, a self acclaimed factional UPU youth wing president.”

According to the petition, Umukoro “is known to target his victims with lies and blackmail.”

Continuing, the petition said that “Mr. Efemena Umukoro uses the pictures of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State and other Senior Police Officers as his Display picture (DP) on social media platforms including Whatsapp and Facebook and it serve him as a tool/means for intimidating, bullying and name-dropping people.

“Efemena Umukoro openly brags about his relationship with the Commissioner of Police, Delta State and other Senior Police Officers claiming he can arrest and/or kill any community leader that speaks against the use of illicit/illegal drugs in Abraka which include our client, MR. EFE DON KIGHO and that nothing can be done to him as he has connection in high places.”

“That the said MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO also brags about illicit/illegal drugs and narcotics in the community and said no one can stop the use of illicit/illegal drugs and narcotics in Abraka as the dealers of the highly prohibited drugs are his people,” the petition added.

It was also stated that on three occasions, murder attempt has been carried out on Kigho “by persons suspected to be members of the Anti-Cult Squad and who are also suspected to be working with the said MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO.”

The petition said that all attempts to seek justice by Kigho have failed “and he now lives in fear for his life and that of his family.”

The petition recalled how  on Monday, 18th of October 2021, Kigho “was invited by the new DPO, SP Fabian of the Nigeria police Force, Abraka Divisional Headquarters, Abraka, in the presence of the DCO, IPO and other officers and the DPO, (a very professional and principled officer) promised to charge the said MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO to Court on Wednesday.

“That our Client and MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO were asked to report on Wednesday, the 20th day of October, 2021 to enable the police charge the matter to Court. That the matter was charged to the Erho-Abraka Magistrate Court accordingly but the said MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO didn’t show up either at the police station or the court,” rather he switched off his phone and went underground.

Akata said: “That immediately our client left the court premises for his residence, two (2) boys on bike suspected to be working with the said MR. EFEMENA UMUKORO approached our client and told him to be ready for war as the said MR EFEMENA UMUKORO is in Asaba making some underground movements and they will show him who is in charge of Delta State.

“That our client took this piece of warning/intimidation/threat with a pinch of salt and unfortunately for him, on reaching his place of abode in Obiaruku, Delta State, he saw other three (3) other boys fully armed to the teeth laying siege/ambush awaiting his arrival from the Court but thank God that our client quickly got the hint from a good Samaritan and he took to his heels.

“That our client was advised by friends to leave the community immediately for safety which he did.

“That our client, MR. EFE DON KIGHO immediately ran to Warri for fear of his life and could not attend his father’s 7th year Remembrance Ceremony in Abraka.”

The lawyer urged the AIG use his good office to ensure that justice is done in favor of Kigho, just as he requested that he invites Umukoro for interrogation/questioning and ensure that he attends his trial.”

Meanwhile, speaking to Oasis Magazine, Kigho recalled that Umukoro in a report on www.oasismagazine.com.ng said that he was not aware of the court date and will make himself available, adding: “Until date Umukoro has gone underground and the threat to my life and family has increased.”

Speaking further, he said that “rumour has it that Umukoro (who earlier boasted publicly that he can do anything and get away with it with the help of senior police officers) is making desperate efforts to pressure the police in Abraka to withdraw the case that has been registered in Erho magistrate Court, Abraka.”

“I, family members and Abraka people are watching. I have also related this to my lawyers and I call on the general public to take note. We expect that justice will not only be done, but must be seen to have been done,” he said.
