Describes Approval Of Meeting By Gov. Diri As Betrayal To Party, Seriake Dickson

The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus Forum in Bayelsa West, Chief Allen Peremobowei, has condemned in strong terms the meeting of Ekeremor Stakeholders Forum with the Bayelsa State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Gesiye Isowo, to reaffirm the zoning arrangement in Bayelsa West Senatorial district at the State Party Secretariat Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

A statement signed by Chief Peremobowei, said “the meeting was convened by political appointees under the Prosperity Government including some elective office holders to reaffirm the so called zoning arrangement in the senatorial district.”

According to the statement, “it is pertinent to note that the meeting is strongly against the Governor’s directive in a State Executive Council meeting that no political appointee under the Prosperity Government should hold any political meeting,” stressing that the political space is overheated with unnecessary political activities untimely.

Recall that the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, during a State Executive Council meeting in government house gave an order that no member of the State Executive Council and other political appointees under the Prosperity Government should at no point hold any political meeting without his permission.

The Governor’s directive came as a result of various political meetings in Bayelsa West in regards to the zoning arrangement.

Investigations indicate that a meeting was held at the PDP State Secretariat Yenagoa, ably led by Chief Amule Thompson, who is the Governor’s uncle and political appointee (Commissioner for Local Government Affairs) under the Prosperity Government.

The meeting whose primary objective was to reaffirm the zoning arrangement was approved by Governor Douye Diri according to reports and confirmed by his uncle, Chief Amule Thompson.

Further investigations indicate that Douye Diri’s directive not to hold political meetings specifically concerning the zoning arrangement in Bayelsa West by members of the State Executive Council and other political appointees of the Prosperity Government was a planned move to stop loyalists and supporters of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, in Bayelsa West and the State at large from working for Senator Dickson’s reelection.

The Chairman of Bayelsa West PDP Caucus Forum while addressing journalists, condemned the meeting in strong terms, stressing that the meeting has created a lot of political tension in the senatorial district.

He described the approval of the meeting by Governor Douye Diri, as a great betrayal to members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa West, most especially Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

Chief Peremobowei further urged Governor Douye Diri, as a matter of urgency to tell members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa West and the State at large, why he approved the meeting to reaffirm the so called zoning arrangement after his directive to all political appointees under his administration not to hold any meeting of such.

“The Governor’s failure to give an elaborate explanation of his approval for the meeting will clearly show that he is against the reelection of his predecessor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson,” he added.
