DELSU: We’ll Restore Students’ Trust In SUG Leaders –New President

President, Students’ Union Government (SUG), Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Comrade Mathias Jimson, has said that his administration will restore the trust students have in leaders of the Union.

Jimmy said this during an exclusive interview with Oasis Magazine on Wednesday.

The student leader who said he is aware of the dwindling trust of students in the ability of SUG leaders to make sure that their needs are met and their interests given attention, promised that there would be a change in his administration.

Speaking about his vision, Comrade Jimson assured the students that his administration will always put their interest first, stating that their welfare will always be his priority.

He added that he will try his best to relieve the students of some financial and academic pressure.

Speaking further, he praised the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwuyenga for his diplomatic nature and his willingness to listen and adjust.

His words: “There is one thing I really admire about the Vice Chancellor and that is his willingness to engage with the union peacefully.”

According to him, the Vice Chancellor “is an open person, a father figure and a comrade who understands what true unionism is.”

He commended the immediate past SUG President, Comrade Caleb Okupa, saying that no administration is perfect.

Adding that Okupa performed to the best of his ability.

Meanwhile on the issue of the bad roads in the university community which has lingered for long, he lamented the state of the roads in the Abraka, just as he recalled how he was involved in an accident due to the nature of the road.

Furthermore, he disclosed that his administration will meet with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to discuss the way forward on tackling the challenge.

Asked what his message was to students of the tertiary institution,, he urged the students to keep the faith, believe in his administration and pray for them so that God will guide, protect and grant the new SUG leaders the wisdom to discharge their duties very well.
