The Executive Governor of Delta State
Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori
Delta State
Nigeria.

Dear Sir,

The Unjust, Unlawful and Illegal Detention of Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu, At The Federal Custodial Centre Warri(Prison), Delta State, With Charge Number: FHC/WR/92C/2022.

I’m Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, a concerned citizen of Nigeria, an Activist who has served in various capacity’s in the State and also the National Coordinator, “No Justice, No Peace Initiative.” I write this open letter, to bring to your notice the unjust, unlawful and illegal detention of Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu, who has been held in the Federal Custodial Centre Warri(Prison), Delta State, for over 15 months.

His Excellency, Sir, Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu was charged of six counts, which bothered on cyberstalking in the case titled ‘Federal Government of Nigeria Vs. Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho.’ The charge sheet dated July 21, 2022, bordering on the offence of cyberstalking and posting of information claimed to be false on Facebook by the Nigeria Police, was said to contravene the provisions of the Cybercrime Act 2015.

The office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation had on July 21, 2022 allegedly filed charges in defence of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed(Retired), former Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Marshal Umukoro(Retired), Delta State Immediate Past Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Mohammed Ali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Oghenekevwe Agas, former Director Child Development, Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, Mr. Fred Ugheni and the President of an NGO, one Joshua Omorere, who were accused by Activist Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, of Child Trafficking and Conspiracy, in trafficking thousands of children from Delta State.

Activist Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho was arrested for calling for a probe into child trafficking by State actors in Delta State. He was first arraigned on holding charges at the Magistrate Court in Asaba in June 2022 and remanded at the Federal Custodial Centre, Ogwashi-Uku. He was later arraigned at the Federal High Court, Warri Division on October 12, 2022, and was remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Warri on the same date.

Your Excellency, Sir, I understand that Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu may have points to make and lacunas in the system to point out but may have done it, the wrong way. I also understand that, the accusations made by the said activist, were directed towards top government officials, hence the reasons why efforts to release the said activist proves abortive and being frustrated. Your Excellency, Sir, Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu has great passion for children and had advocated for children and against child trafficking; as it is a serious crime against God and humanity and with the versatile knowledge he has about Children; Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu could be of great assistance to the Delta State Government if collaborated with.

Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu had sought an order directing Justice Abang to release him from his continued remand at the Federal Custodial Centre Warri(Prison) pending the conclusive investigation of the Attorney-General of the Federation on the subject matter on several court hearing, until the absence of a judge, which stalled the hearing application to dismiss the charges against him. Your excellency Sir, Without being told, there are some persons in government, who are bent on frustrating every efforts made to secure the release of Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu; as efforts made by reliable surety’s proves almost impossible. Furthermore, the recent deployment of Hon. Justice I.M. Sani, to the Federal High Court, Warri, would give an edge to granting him bail, as he has been incarcerated for too long by powerful individuals in the State.

Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu who finds it difficult to make three(3) square meals available for his family while he was at liberty of movement, had been kept in the correctional facility for over 15 months and I am wondering how his wife and kids are fairing. He is a native of Urhobo with his origin from Okpara Inland in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State. He is the Delta State Coordinator, Take-it-Back and he’s married to Mrs. Oghogho Ighorhiohwunu and they are blessed with four(4) kids.

Your Excellency, Sir, I believe in equity, fairness and justice, regardless of her Justice system and how it has been watered so low but I trust that you will look into the circumstances surrounding Activist Aghogho Ighorhiohwunu’s detention, ensuring that he is released from the correctional facility. Sir, your swift intervention on this matter, will not only serve the course of justice but also relieve the suffering of an innocent man and his family.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter, and I anticipate a positive response from your office.

Yours Faithfully,

Comr.(Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen
National Coordinator,
“No Justice, No Peace Initiative.”
