Another Strange Midnight Fire Razes Shops In Warri Market

Barely one week when a strange outbreak ravaged Madam Dophine and Ogulaha sections of stores in Market Road behind the uncompleted Ogbe- Ijoh Market Warri, another arange midnight fire incident razed good and properties worth several millions in nearby Achanja Market under similar circumstances as the first one.

The cause of the inferno was not immediately known and there was no loss of life as at the time of filing this report.

However, unlike the Madam Dophine Market and Ogulaha Waterside sections, goods and properties in Achanja Market were largely those that were not inflammable.

Attempt by men of Delta State Fire Service to combat the fire were unsuccessful as it was alleged that they ran out of water in their initial attempt but did not return to complete their assignment .

When our correspondent arrived the scene of the fire incident, victims were seen lamenting over their loses.

One of them, Madam Lucky ( surname witheld ), a garri retailer in the burnt Ogulaha Waterside said that she was lucky to escape the first fire disaster as she traveled to purchase her goods when the first fire incident occurred.

“I then decided to shift my goods here for safety but they have been burnt completely,” she added.

Another female trader who declined to mention her name spoke in the same vein, as she recalled that it was incessant outbreak fire in trading areas in Market Road that forced sellers of Ogogoro ( local distilled gin ) to relocate to Habour Market in Ovwian Udu Local Government Area .

She also noted that the ugly trend started since after the infamous Warri ethnic crisis with heavy presence of hoodlums ( area boys ).

Meanwhile, scavengers were seen doing what they were known for shamelessly after the said incident.

Attempts to hear from the Executive Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi were unsuccessful as he sent a text message to our correspondent that he will call back later.
