DELSU Holds Induction Ceremony For 12th Set Of Medical Doctors

DELTA State University (DELSU), Abraka, was agog yesterday, following the swearing-in/oath taking of 27 medical doctors of the institution.

The event, which took place in Site Three of the university, had in attendance, members of the university community, families of the new doctors, friends and well-wishers.

Speaking at the swearing in/oath taking ceremony of the 1st batch of 12th set of qualified medical doctors, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, noted that the ceremony marked a significant milestone in the annals of the university, and clearly indicated that the institution’s medical school has come of age and occupies a significant position in the county of medical schools not only in Nigeria, but in West African sub-region.
He said : “This is further reinforced by the fact that the MBBS programme has had repeated full accreditation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and the National Universities Commission (NUC). This feat was made possible through the concerted efforts of all the relevant stakeholders.”

While congratulating the graduands for being able to achieve this feat, which he noted automatically placed them on a higher social and academic pedestal among their peers, urged them to put into practice the concepts and theories they learnt, bearing in mind the tenets and ethics the revered profession.
The vice-chancellor commended the management and staff of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, management and staff of the College of Health Sciences for their efforts in providing the required academic and professional training the new graduates doctors.
He, therefore, urged the state government not to relent in its quest of providing a world class quality education for its citizens through provision of state-of-the-arts infrastructure.
Also speaking, the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Lawrence Omo-Aghoja, urged the new medical doctors to put into practice what they learnt during their formation years.
He tasked them to become good ambassadors of the Delta State University by ensuring that they serve the larger society as professional doctors.
