Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, yesterday, commenced online lectures for students of the institution through Telegram.
Oasis Magazine gathered that most lecturers in the institution are currently teaching students various courses from 100 level to final year online.
It was learnt that the Faculty of Education is among the faculties that commenced online lectures yesterday.
Specifically, the departments are Biology Education, Business Education, Computer Science Education, Physics Education, Fine Art Education, Chemistry Education and Home Economics Education.
They were taught Edu 411 with course title “ Organization and Administration of Primary and Secondary Education In Nigeria”.
A final year student of Biology Education, who craved anonymity, said classes held through Telegram.
She said : “This is the first time we are having online lectures and the experience is good. The class commenced by 8a.m. and ended by 10a.m.
“The lecturer took attendance as soon as the class started. She told us that attendance is compulsory. The lecture was done on Telegram. She lectured us and gave room for questions and we are satisfied.”
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Eddy Agbure, confirmed the development.
He said : “Online lectures have commenced in the institution. The initiative is to ensure that our students are kept busy academically while the Coronavirus pandemic lasts.
“You know, at the end of the pandemic when the students resume lectures in classes, they would have lost nothing due to the online lectures. The biggest gain after the pandemic is that the students won’t be rusty.”
