THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that the allegations leading to the suspension of it’s acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu are not related to corruption.
Reports emerged Tuesday that Magu was suspended by the Presidency even when he was still being interrogated by the Presidential Panel.
Magu was arrested on Monday by a combined team of Department of State Services personnel and policemen at the Wuse II office of the EFCC to face an interagency committee investigating corruption allegations against him. 
He was detained at the FCID in Area 10, Abuja, on Monday night on the orders of the committee that also questioned him on Tuesday morning.
A source in the Presidency confirmed the development Tuesday afternoon that Magu has now been suspended pending when a decision will be taken on him.
A top offici at the commission who spoke in confidence to Oasis Magazine (OM) noted that the allegations against Magu were not true, describing them as a power play between the Attorney General and Magu.
According to the source, complaints by staff and members of the commission about poor welfare and unnecessary delay of staff due for promotion was also a major reason for the suspension of the chairman.
He said: “I can tell you that all the allegations against Magu are all lies. I see the whole situation as a power play between the AGF and Magu and also preparation for 2023 is also the reason why they want Magu out because he knows too much.
“Another thing is the problem of staff welfare, imagine somebody like me for close to ten years I have not gained any promotion, even as we are not happy about the news of his suspension. I still know that staff are not happy with him.”
Meanwhile the headquarters of the EFCC was looking like a graveyard on Tuesday immmediately it was reported that the chairman has been suspended.
The reception of the commission was empty unlike the days Magu was still in charge of the commission even as the photographs of the chairman were still decorating everywhere in the commission.
Spokesperson of the commission, Dele Oyewale declined comment when contacted.
