Delta Community Leader Wants Stakeholders To Safeguard Culture, Traditions From Extinction

Stakeholders in the society have been urged to strive and contribute their quota towards preserving and sustaining their culture and traditions from going into extinction through active participation in their festivals.

A frontline community Leader from Umuomahe family of Obodogba quarters, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Eloke Onwuka, who made the call in Okpanam shortly after celebrating the 2020 new yam festival, said that the call had become necessary in view of carefree attitude of some people to take part in any festival in their areas.

Onwuka, said that there was need for the people to wholeheartedly embrace traditions at all times, adding that any society without cultural heritage was doomed.

While saying that the new yam festival was a veritable instrument to appreciate God for His numerous blessings and protection of lives, Mr. Eloke Onwuka who maintained that he decided to cook and entertain the people, especially his kinsmen as a symbol of love and unity, stated that culture and traditions were notable ingredients of an informed and recognised society which according to him, enhances togetherness as well as mutual understanding.
He used the occasion to admonish youths to always show respect for their elders in order to tap from their blessings, stressing that there was the need for them to shun crimes and violent activities at all times.

Onwuka, however, thanked his Kisgmen and well wishers, particularly strangers residing in the community for making out time to identify not only with him but Okpanam community in general , just as he called on the people of the community to unite and shun divisive be tendencies.

The Umuomahe born community leader, who reaffirmed that no meaningful socio-economic development could take place in an atmosphere of rancour, commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah for the giant strides in the community.

He, therefore, appreciated the Governor for finding their son, Mr. Ukah worthy to serve in his administration.
