Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a telephone conversation, Prof. Idolor said that “Okpe Union is an old organization and about the first in the country,” adding that “it started in 1920 and was registered in 1930.”
He added: “People have been there before. It is usually turn by turn. Thank God it is my turn now. We will try and move the union further and let it reflect on the development of Okpe Kingdom.
“Our plan to ensure that there is peace and that what is due the Okpe people gets to them. That is why the union is there. It is also to ensure that the culture of the Okpe people is advanced. Many people will come to know about the Okpe language and culture, the dancing, the music and whatsoever.”
He thanked the Orodje of Okpe for the opportunity to serve, saying that the monarch is an enlightened man and one that has shown maturity in handling issues when things seem to be going wrong so it does not degenerate.
“I thank him for stepping into the issues in Okpe union,” he said.
To indigenes of the kingdom, he opined: “I am a servant and I thank them for finding me worthy to paddle the canoe at this time. I need their cooperation, support and knowledge about the system to guide us during our tenure.”
