Ethiope East PDP Leaders Pick Ogedegbe As Party’s Candidate For 2021 Council Election
By Daniel Dafe
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State have picked Augustine Ogedegbe, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Peace Building and Intelligence Gathering as the chairmanship candidate of the party for the March 6, 2021 council elections.
According to reliable sources, the decision was made by leaders of the party under the aegis of ‘Select Committee of 29’ during a strategic meeting at the residence of Chief Benard Edewor in Eku on Friday.
One of our sources who was at the said meeting debunked the news that Ogedegbe was imposed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, as he countered the idea of an Abraka candidate.
He said: “Not selecting an Abraka aspirant has nothing to do with equity, but you could say fairness.”
He excitedly disclosed that Ogedegbe has been picked and this is final.
Oasis Magazine (OM) learnt that the meeting today was at the instance of the Governor who learnt that some aspirants kicked against the selection of Ogedegbe that was first made public some days ago.
“Today’s meeting was to find out if any of the 28 leaders were opposed to the selection of Ogedegbe. At the meeting today, none of those present objected,” a source said.
Our source who was at the meeting said that none of the 12 aspirants were invited to today’s meeting.
Those present at the meeting on Friday include: Chief Benard Edewor, Chief Akpodiogaga Emeyese, Pa Mike Adiotomre, Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo, Chief Sunday Onos, Chief Faith Majemite, Felix Erhimedafe, Love Ojakovo, George Orogun, May Iyasere, Judith Enamuotor, Professor Andrew Ekakitie, Chief Suru Salami, Engineer Oribororo, Loveth Idisi, Odet Emo (Bravo), Chief Tony Oboroh and Barr (Chief) Christopher Egbonoje.
Others are Isoswo Enakerakpor, Dr Efetobor Frank, Julie Omoruwa, Chief Kent Akigho, Evah Okparume.
The Woman Leader of the party, youth leader, secretary and Vice Chairman of the party in the area were also present.
According to our source, Evance Ivwurie who is a member of the Committee was absent.
Meanwhile, an aggrieved aspirant has vowed not to finance any PDP activity henceforth in Ethiope East as he has always done, while another aspirant has vowed to come up with a press statement to express his disgust over the development.
However, the decision of today has put to rest every argument on who flies the party’s flag next year.
