Delta SSG Urges Corporate Organisations, Spirited Individuals To Complement Government’s Efforts In Education Sector

The Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), Mr. Patrick Ukah, has called on corporate organisations and good spirited individuals in the state to complement Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration’s efforts at improving the education sector by contributing their quota towards creating conducive environment for teachers and learners in the state.

Mr. Ukah, made the call at Ibili Primary School in Idumesah Community, Ika North East Local Government Area of the state during the commissioning of the renovated four blocks of three classrooms each with the supply of 36 learners furniture, donated to the school by Obima -Nwali Foundation.

The SSG, who was represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Augustine Ede Oghoro, commended the foundation, especially its financier, Isioma Nwali for the gesture.

Mr. Ukah, reiterated that due to the increase in the number of public primary and secondary schools in the state, there was need for various interventions in the form of upgrade of physical infrastructure as well as provision of utilities.

He said that with the demand on government’s resources, it might not be able to carry out the entire interventions in all the schools at the same time.

While assuring of the state government’s readiness to continue to partner with relevant private organisations and individuals to transform the education sector, the SSG noted that it was gratifying to identify with the Obima-Nwali Foundation, even as he maintained that the facilities would be protected from vandalism.

Earlier, a representative of Obima-Nwali Foundation, Chief Angus Obima-Nwali, said that the initiative to contribute to the lives of children in the area was aimed at encouraging them to embrace education thus guaranteeing a brighter future for them .

He stated that the foundation started in 2918 with the payment of examination fee for pupils of Ibili Primary School, Idumesah, adding that in 2019, the foundation also carried out the payment of their examination fee and provided reading materials for the pupils.

In his remarks, a stakeholder in the community, Dr. Frank Nwugo, who lauded the foundation’s initiative to impact on the lives of the people of Idumesah community, urged other well meaning Ika indigenes and Idumesah in particular to emulate the laudable gesture of Obima-Nwali Foundation.

For his part, the Delta North Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Moses Iduh, commended the foundation for its inspiring contributions to humanity.

High point of the ceremony was presentation of letter of appreciation to the representative of Obima-Nwali Foundation, Chief Angus Obima-Nwali.
