Ughelli: SWAN Takes ‘ICAN Enlightenment Campaign’ To Anglican Girls Grammar School

Lucy Okena-led Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Delta State Chapter, on Friday stormed Anglican Girls’ Grammar School (AGSS), Ughelli, to enlighten SSI and SS 2 students on the need to consider taking up the Accounting profession by embracing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

SWAN is the female wing of ICAN.

The programme tagged: ‘Catch them Young’ took place at the school’s town hall.

Speaking during the event, Chairperson, SWAN, Delta State Chapter, Mrs Lucy Okena ACA, urged the female students not to be deterred by their gender as they pursue a sound education, saying that one of their core objective is to support girl-child education.

She noted that the immediate past president and present president of ICAN, Dame Onome Adewuyi FCA and Mrs Comfort Eyitayo FCA respectively, are females, as well as the Accountant General of Delta State, Mrs. Joy Enwa FCA.

The chairperson, who reeled out 10 importance of ICAN, urged them to imbibe the 4 ds of success which she said are determination, drive, dedication and discipline.

During the programme, a talk on ‘Pathways to ICAN ATSWA’ was delivered by Everista Oboh and then a motivational session coordinated by Onome Ejeje.

Also, students were allowed to ask questions, as SWAN members took their turns to provide answers to would-be ICAN members amongst the students.

Items such as ICAN branded notebooks, biros and bags were also distributed to the students.

Members of the executive of SWAN present at the occasion are Lucy Okenna ACA, Chairperson, May Agbogidi ACA, Secretary, Josephine Ogala FCA, Welfare Secretary and Anita Esowhode FCA, Financial Secretary.
