Corporate Organisations Urged To Partner Government In Training Of Teachers

Corporate Organisations have been called upon to always partner with government in developing a standardised workforce in the education sector through training and retraining of teachers towards ensuring effective teaching and learning processes.

The Director of Schools, Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education, Mrs. Clementina Ojumah, made the call during the second edition of the NPDC / SEPLAT Teachers Empowerment Programme in Benin city, Edo State.

Mrs. Ojumah, who represented the Commissioner for Primary Education, Mr. Chika Ossai and that of Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, lauded NPDC and SEPLAT for their initiative.

She said that through the programme, teachers would be equipped with modern teaching techniques for improved classroom experience, adding that over the years, teaching and learning in Nigeria had suffered a lot of set back as a result of the changing world with modern technology.

Mrs. Ojumah, recalled that 100 teachers benefitted from the first edition of the programme, held in Delta State, saying that a total of 125 teachers would benefit from the second edition.

The Delta State Director of Schools, noted that with the increasing number of in-school youths there should be greater number of trained teachers so as to meet with the desired classroom outcomes.

She, however, asserted that no socioeconomic transformation could occur in any state and nation at large without sound education, stressing that science and technology must be well equipped with the task of giving a student standardised classroom experience.

Mrs. Ojumah, also said that the functional and lifelong skills could not be impacted except education was accessible, equitable and qualitative.
