2023: SDP Condemns Agitation By Delta Central To Produce Next Governor

As 2023 gets closer, Chairman, Social Democratic Party, Delta State, Ambassador Oke Idawene, has condemned in strong terms agitations from Delta Central Senatorial District that it is their right to produce the next Governor to take over from Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

The SDP leader said this in a statement made available to media houses.

His words: “It is the right of every Deltan to contest for the Governorship seat come 2023. The conclusion by a party in the state that it’s Delta Central’s turn Is laughable.

“We may say it’s a particular party’s arrangement, but irespective of party lines, we are all Deltans. What affects the tongue affects the teeth.
It’s no Senatorial District’s right. But if the Urhobos want it as they say, they should work harder to convince other senatorial districts why they should be supported; not sitting in their comfort zones and screaming in the media that it’s their turn.”

According to him, SDP believes in competence, not zoning, adding: “We shall field the best. We have aspirants calling on us now and we shall offer the best for Delta State irrespective of the Senatorial District.”

In the same vein, speaking on the choice of Nigeria’s next president, Idawene said the Southern leaders must wake up and lobby the north and make them see why they should be supported for president not shouting that it’s the turn of the south, noting that “power is not given for free.”

Furthermore, he said Nigerians must condemn all divisive tendencies in the country.

“We remain one. What happened in the Abiola’s time can happen again with the right approach. Nobody can divide Nigeria no matter how hard they try. It won’t work,” he averred.

Meanwhile, he said that for the presidential election, come 2023, SDP stands for competence, not zoning.

“Every Nigerian has the right to contest. Bring out your best let Us choose,” he said.
