I Have Been Vindicated — Anthonia Ogboru

By Daniel Dafe

An indigene of Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Anthony Onakpoya, on Saturday dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party.

Onakpoya, who spoke to journalists in Abraka after his declaration for the PDP, said many reasons made him defect to the PDP.

His words: “My kind of politics when I was in APC, right from the time from Labour Party to APC, I decided to work with them because my brother (Great Ogboru) was a governorship aspirant and that was the reason why if hoped that if he becomes the Governor of Delta State, I thought we might have some benefits based on the fact that we are from the same place. After the whole struggle, he could not win the governorship election. Presently he is in APC, we are approaching 2023 and there is a struggle in APC between Ogboru camp and Omo-Agege camp. APC just conducted its congresses. From my own observation, the followers of Ogboru were not part of the thing and I cannot work with another camp. Formerly, I was in PDP before I went to APC. I have to fall back to PDP because of the struggle in APC.

“There is a slogan in PDP now; that is how Urhobo can deliver the Governor of Delta State through PDP and everybody’s hand is on deck. The interest I had in APC was based on my person from Abraka was coming out for Governor. This 2023, I don’t see anything that will make him to get any ticket from APC based on the fact that the structure of APC has been hijacked from Ogburu. There is no way unless he happens to go to another party. If he goes to another party, there is no way he can have it, no chance. This state is PDP state. We were in Sapele today, if you see the crowd, it’s like it is all over the state and I don’t want to play that politics of minority any longer. I want to be in the system. That is what motivated me to join PDP.

“In Delta state, it is only PDP that can deliver the Governor. You can take the analysis. If you were here when the party chairman was saying something here, go to all the local governments today, the majority of the key people in politics are all in PDP. I don’t want to play minority politics any longer and we have been suffering when we were in APC. We said let us endure because he is our brother but I cannot continue like that any longer, especially now that our brother is not having the chance of getting the ticket for 2023. I can’t continue like that for another eight years. Take a look at Abraka now. Is the town really developing if not for all these ‘Yahoo boys’? No infrastructural development, nothing. There is no industry here, no political presence, it is no big joke.

“When Great was in Labour party I worked with him, APC the same thing. Now he is struggling to have a chance in the primaries. Politics is calculation. Omo-Agege already has the structure for APC and there is no two ways about it. APC has two camps and I’m not ready for that. I can’t be in a party of two camps. I don’t even know if our brother here will decamp to come and join us here in PDP because majority of the people that declared from APC today in Sapele are bigwigs. They have spent money, die-hard, they can’t continue like this. Majority of them are people in Ogboru’s camp who are not seeing any future there. They are the ones decamping to PDP because they don’t want to remain the same again coupled with what we are facing at the national level now. There is insecurity everywhere.

Meanwhile, the Ward 2 PDP woman leader in Abraka, Ethiope East, Anthonia Ogboru, has said that with the movement of many Ogboru supporters to PDP, she has been vindicated.

She said: “I am so grateful today that even my brothers that were fighting me have come to join me in PDP. They saw me as an opposition. But, today they have seen the truth that I was standing on. They saw that Okowa , His Excellency, is a genuine and grassroot Governor. I bless God for today who made me to be alive today to see my brothers who were fighting me and were ready to kill me join me in PDP.

“In 2019 they killed my 25 year old son because of politics but today they are with me. Thank God for my leader, Hon. Evans Ivwurie, Hon. Tony Ajaino that made me to still see the victory of today. I appreciate God Almighty and I bless the name of PDP. I know they didn’t narrate my issue to Sen. Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa who does not see what I am passing through. In my unit, Ajalomi-Abraka, both guns, both threatening of life and burning of house. My own people fought me. But today I’m proud. Nothing will make me to leave PDP because in me the blood of PDP flows. I belong to PDP, I will die for PDP, I will live for PDP. I pray Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa will see what I am passing through in unit 4, ward 2 Ethiope East.

Delta politics is between Chief Ogboru and PDP and not the other round. If Chief Ogboru aka the people’s general decided not to contest the 2023 election, then it will be PDP vs PDP. Anyone talking of PDP vs another party is wasting his or her time. The truth is that it is only the people’s general that has what it take to oppose the pdp because of the love deltans have in him. We are watching because no doubt no ChiefOgboru no opposition in Delta state politic. Watch out.
