Unenurhie 2022 Electoral Committee Gives Guidelines, Others (PRESS STATEMENT)

As the Unenurhie community elections are just few days from now, the Electoral Committee chaired by a retired principal in the Delta state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Williams Ilayah and an RCCG pastor, Pastor Emmanuel Omamomo, as secretary recently issued a press statement, warning alleged trouble makers to obey and respect the rules and guidelines of the elections as stated in the community’s constitutions since 1990.
The press statement which the Electoral Committee issued and signed at the community townhall read in parts:

“That a five-man Electoral Committee was duly constituted and inaugurated by the president-general of the community, Mr. Peter Maison, JP according to Article 8 of the UCDU Constitution (2020 as amended) during a National Executive Council meeting held in the community townhall.

That the Electoral Committee has fixed Tuesday 22nd March, 2022 as the date set aside for the conduct of the UCDU Elections by the Electoral Committee. Any other date outside this official date should not be recognized and accepted by anybody.

That publications and notifications for the collection of electoral forms by interested contestants, dates for screening of contestants and dates for campaigns by contestants were widely circulated by the media and the community town-criers.

That only those who collected electoral forms, undergone the screening test and finally approved by the Electoral Committee are the only ones eligible to participate in the UCDU Elections as accredited contestants.

That any election that is conducted with the name of the UCDU within or outside Unenurhie community without this Electoral Committee is therefore declared null and void. It should not be accepted and recognized by any person, group, community or the government of Delta state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

That we hereby appeal to the indigenes and residents of Unenurhie community to abide by the rules and regulations of the elections as set by the Electoral Committee, and to also respect the UCDU Constitution to conduct free and credible elections.”

The press statement however called on the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to be around on the election day in the community as there were a lot of perceived security challenges being posed by the alleged trouble makers.
